Last Sunday (April 15), The Manilow Fund for Health and Hope sponsored the 2007 Las Vegas AIDS Walk, and ended up contributing more than $30,000. Manilow fans were encouraged to join the walk, which began at 10 a.m. at the World Market Center, just north of the Las Vegas Premium Outlets (on the corner of the I-15 Freeway and Charleston Boulevard).Manilow headlines at the Las Vegas Hilton through 2008.
Paul Anka, who marks his 50th anniversary in music and nearly five decades performing in Las Vegas with an exclusive appearance at the Las Vegas Hilton May 4 -5, has recorded 125 albums to date, including over 10 albums in Japanese, German, Spanish, French, and Italian, composing songs culturally tailored to each country.

The third annual “Meatball Awards” honors Las Vegans in several categories and is designed to “honor the recipients’ life experiences and recognize the indelible mark their spirit has left on ‘Vintage Las Vegas.’" Ira David Sternberg, vice president of communications and community relations for the Las Vegas Hilton, will receive the “radio” category award. Sternberg, whose career includes decades of professional broadcasting as well as public relations, writing and communications, was inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2000. He previously hosted a long-running weekly talk show on KDWN, “Las Vegas Notebook.” Other recipients include Jerry Fink, Las Vegas Sun for “Press Columnist”; Gary Waddell for “TV Anchorman”; and Cathy Ray for “TV Anchorwoman.” Nancy Houssels and Sam Melchionne take the big bows for “Las Vegas Lifetime Achievement.” A portion of the proceeds from the awards ceremony (this Sunday) will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Gavin Smith, the World Poker Tour (WPT) “Player of the Year,” joins Rodd William Stowell and Marc Nelson, Hilton poker room manager, on this Friday’s edition of “Poker, Straight From The Hilton” (3 p.m. on KLAV, 1230 on the AM dial, and archived on www.lvhilton.com).
The Las Vegas Hilton SuperBook didn’t waste any time once the league officially announced the regular season schedule. The SuperBook posted odds on all the games for week #1. The season kicks off Thursday, September 6 with the Saints visiting the defending champion Colts. The Colts are a 6 point favorite. Some of the highlighted games on opening day Sunday, September 9, include Broncos -4 at Bills, Patriots -5 at Jets, and Eagles – 3 ½ at Packers. The league will again open with two Monday night games that include Ravens at Bengals -3 and Cardinals at 49ers -3. The SuperBook will also be posting over/under season wins and games of the year in the near future.
The La Bella Wedding Chapel at the Las Vegas Hilton has opened its pool area gazebo, which can accommodate up to 50 guests. Corporate Challenge kicked off March 29 (and runs through June 16) and many employees from the Las Vegas Hilton have signed up to participate and volunteer. Some of the medals already won: The Hilton’s Range Shoot team won a Bronze Medal; the 8-Ball team one a Gold Medal; two Hilton employees won gold medals and one a bronze at the 5k Run. Tuesday night, at the Track & Field meet, the Hilton team won more than 20 medals in events such as the Shot Put, Softball Throw, 400m Run and 1600m Run.
The Far West Athletic Trainers Association Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium will be meeting at the Las Vegas Hilton April 27-29. The group focuses on helping the athletic trainer in both challenging the NATABOC Certification Examination and pursuing a career in Athletic Training.
