FOUR FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE SCHOLARHIPS AWARDED TO CHILDREN OF LAS VEGAS HILTON EMPLOYEES
LAS VEGAS HILTON SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM CONTINUES TRADITON OF SUPPORTING EDUCATION
LAS VEGAS—The Las Vegas Hilton recently awarded four-year college scholarships to four children of employees in a special luncheon at the resort.
The Las Vegas Hilton Scholarship Program has been a tradition at the property, and since the Hilton’s purchase by Colony Resorts in 2004, more than $70,000 in scholarships have been awarded.
“It is an important part of the Las Vegas Hilton culture to recognize and encourage education,” said Rudy Prieto, CEO and general manager of the resort/casino. “It is particularly rewarding to assist children of our employees.”
Each candidate goes through an extensive application in order to qualify and is then interviewed by a panel of Hilton managers in April or May of each year. This year, the panel interviewed 11 qualified applicants.
Each recipient receives a four-year/eight-semester (or until graduation, whichever comes first) scholarship of $1,200 per semester ($2,400 per year) and must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 2.75 and minimum class load of 12 units. The choice of accredited college or university is made by the student.
Scholarships this year were awarded to Salvador Alejo, son of Salvador Alejo from the Food and Beverage Department; Stephanie Houle, daughter of Brian Houle from the Engineering Department; Allisondra LeClair, daughter of Lisa LeClair, from the Food and Beverage Department; and Adriana Pascoe, daughter of Alejandrina Castaneda, from the Beverage Department.
