PAUL ANKA CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY IN MUSIC WITH SPECIAL ENGAGEMENT AT LAS VEGAS HILTON MAY 4 & 5
LAS VEGAS—Paul Anka, one of this century’s most successful entertainers and songwriters, marks his 50th anniversary in music and nearly five decades performing in Las Vegas with an exclusive appearance at the Las Vegas Hilton May 4 & 5.
As a recording artist, Anka has sold more than 40 million albums, CDs and singles worldwide. In the United States, he has scored three #1 songs, "Diana," "Lonely Boy," and "You're Having My Baby," as well as 22 Top 20 hits. To date, he has recorded 125 albums, including more than ten albums in Japanese, German, Spanish, French, and Italian, composing songs culturally tailored to each country.
The legendary performer has been a Las Vegas mainstay for nearly five decades, having first played here at the Sahara in 1959 with Sophie Tucker. Anka shows no sign of slowing down. “In the beginning, people didn't come to see me because I was a performer,” said Anka. “They came to see me because I had a hit song. Now they come because they know I'll give them a performance like no one else.”
Anka also has written a staggering 900 songs--130 recorded by other artists including Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, and Robbie Williams. He is particularly well-known for penning signature songs for others, notably "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" (Buddy Holly), "She's a Lady" (Tom Jones), "Puppy Love" (Donny Osmond) and, of course, "My Way" (Frank Sinatra).
In September, Anka releases his most personal album to date, My Way – Swings & Strings, a collection of his favorite songs, covering the gamut of his own greatest hits, to elite singer-songwriters, ballads, and pop and adult contemporary classics. My Way – Swings & Strings, arranged for big band in the vein of his last disc, the critically acclaimed, Gold Certified, Rock Swings showcases Anka’s unmistakable vocals and his uncanny ability to make any song his own with style and panache.
Paul Anka performs Friday and Saturday May 4 & 5 at 8 p.m. in the Hilton Theater. Tickets are $60-$85 (plus tax and service charge) and can be purchased at the Las Vegas Hilton box office or by visiting www.lvhilton.com or calling 702-732-5755 or 1-800-222-5361. Tickets on sale now.
