Earth, Wind & Fire is one of the most musically accomplished funk bands of the '70s, incorporating jazz, smooth soul, gospel, pop, rock & roll, psychedelia, blues, folk, African music, and disco. EW&F was started by Maurice White, a Memphis-born, Chicago-reared drummer, who wanted to form a band that abolished the lines between musical genres. He wanted to be able to freely borrow from all styles of music without regard to convention.
